De-Escalation (Deescalation) Training, 2017-2018
In June of this year, the Board of Education passed a resolution to eliminate suspensions and dramatically reduce suspensions for our youngest learners. During the public comment period, teacher input revealed a need for practical, hands-on professional development in evidence-based classroom management strategies.
For some years in our district, we have offered de-escalation training for educators who were interested in learning this skill. This is a DPS-designed curriculum based on national research and local experience. This year, we are expanding the number of sessions and inviting all early grade teachers to attend. The sessions are on Saturdays from 8:00 to 4:00 and extra pay is available.
